Thasos is an island located in the Aegean Sea. Most of the other islands in Greece, this island offers more than great scenery and beaches. There is a lot of culture and tradition that exudes from the Thasos Island. Thasos has a lot of history and a lot of archeological sites that are located all over the island. Another reason why Thasos is in a great location is because it is close to the mainland and you can take a ferry back and forth so you can get the best of both places.
The water that surrounds the island is crystal clear water that is actually washes the shores.
There is no environmental pollution on the island at all. Everything from the sea to the
beaches to the streets and everything is kept very immaculate and extremely pristine. Thasos has
more beaches than any other Greek island. Some of the beaches on this island have
trees that free fall right down to the beach. The beaches in Thasos are kept clean and free of debris and in fact all of the beaches are immaculate.
In the history of the island, it has had many battles fought for control and many historians have said that they believe that Thasos was not the original name of the island. Some of the names were said to reflect the people who have settled there. Some of the names are Sedon and Odones, these names come from Thracian tribes.
But there is no historical mention of the tribe named Cares, they actually lived on the island and took up weapons to fight the Trojan War with the Pelage Tribe. These tribes have been dated back to 2000 BC. Archeologists have found a trace of the Greek Hercules was actually one of the guards of the island. Then there is the theory that the island got its name from Greek Mythology. Some of the things to see here on the island of Thassos. The Limernaria is a town located 42 km from the town of Thasos. It has a lot of historical buildings and a medieval village.
The Villages of Rachoni and Agios Georgios, these villages still have people living there and they stand in the forest. It is something different to see. If you want to check out the olive and pine trees head over to the Skala Rachoniou, there is also a harbor for the village Rachoni. There is a beautiful beach there. It is a great place for relaxation. Also in Thassos there are other things to do, you can relax on the many beaches or explore the villages.
