    Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands with over 3000 square miles it is also the fifth largest island in the entire Mediterranean Sea. Aside from Athens, Crete is the most popular tourist attraction when people come to Greece. Crete is one of 13 parts that divide Greece; it is the second largest of the Eastern part of the Mediterranean. To the North of Crete is the Sea of Crete, to the south id the Libyan Sea and on the west is the Myrtoon Sea and the east is the Karpathion Sea. The island of Crete has over 650,000 people living there that show how big an island it is.

The terrain in Crete is very mountainous and it has 5 major mountain ranges. They have the White Mountains or Leftka Ori which is about 2,452 miles high, then there is the Idi Range Mountains or the Psoloritis which are about 2,456 miles high, the Dikti Mountains are 2,148 miles high, the Kedros Mountains are 1, 777 miles high and the Thripri Mountains and they are 1,489 miles high. From these mountains, Crete has some of the most fertile plateaus and some of the caves like the Diktaion and the Idaion Caves as well as the Gorge of Samaria.

The climate in Crete is very similar of the rest of Greece, the temperatures are moderate and there are times when the weather can be very humid, all depending on where you live in relation to the sea. The winter months have been very mild and snowfall is almost obsolete. Because of Crete’s location of being in between the Mediterranean and North Africa with Crete being closer to North Africa climate, the summers are very nice, sunny skies and great warm temperatures.

The economy of Crete is based on tourism and farming. Because of the climate on Crete farming is not highly dependent upon. Crete has an average per capita and it is very close to 100 percent of the Greek Average. Unemployment is only 4 percent half of what it is in Greece.

Crete gets thousands of people visiting on vacation; there are many sites to see and many great hotels and beaches. You can see the very popular attractions of Minoan sites of Knossos and Phaistos, the sites of Gortys. There is the Castle in Rethymno and the Gorge of Samaria. There are three major airports, the Nikos Kazantzakis at Heraklion, The Daskalogiannis airport locate din Chaina and a smaller airport in Sitia.

Crete has many beautiful sites and just as many beautiful beaches. If you are looking to get away from the mainland or just have a nice relaxing time on the island of Crete, come on down. They will treat you will respect and like you are on vacation.
