     Greece

(Rate 1 2 3 4 5)
Chania is the second largest city in Crete which is located in Greece. It is not as popular or populated as Athens but it still houses over 70,000 people. The city of Chania is located at the east end of the Gulf of Chania. Just as Athens does, Chania shares the same types of climate with the Mediterranean with very sunny and beautifully dry summers and some rainy winter months. In the months of April and October the sky is always blue and beautiful. But because of the dry weather Chania does get some nasty heat waves but for the most part the days are hot in the summer and mild in the winter.

There are many beautiful hotels to stay in if you are visiting the area. The Alkali and Pandora Suites, The Aegean Hotel and Palazzo Hotel are located in Chania and they are some of the best hotels the city has to offer. They are located near the old town and the modern city. There are buses and taxis available to take you where you wish to go if you do not have a rent a car.

The city of Chania is divided into two parts the old town and the modern city. The modern city is the larger of the two locations. The old town is next to the old harbor that the whole town was built around. In 1538, the towns were surrounded by Venetian walls and though only the east and the west areas have remained in tact. If you look at the town from the south then the old town looks integrated with new town and if you look from the north the actual border is the sea. The middle of the modern city actually goes into the old town and it is more prominent towards the south end.

There are many things to see and do in Chania, there are museums, galleries, beaches, music festivals and clubs and restaurants to see at night. But if you are looking for some hot sight seeing spots in Chania here are a few you may want to see. The Island of Agii Theodori, Kri-Kri the famous Cretan wild goat is located on this small but beautiful island. The Village of Kokkinos Chorio, inside of this town is where the manufacture hand made glass by the way of traditional in the fire glass blowing methods.

Also in Chania is the Firkas castle. This castle was originally built in the 16th century by Venetian dominants of the island. It is a sight you don’t want to miss. Another great historical site is the Frangokastello Fort. This fort is located just 80 kilometers from Chania at the southern most part of Crete. The Kastro or the Souda is another castle built in 1570 by the Venetians. Chania is up and coming for tourists and just one of the most beautiful places located in the country of Greece.
