This is an island in Greece and is one of the top tourist spots in all of Europe. It belongs to the Cyclades, which is a group of islands in the Aegean Sea. It lies between the Tinos, Siros, Paros and the Naxos islands. The island is made up of granite and has little natural fresh water and it counts on desalination sea water to meet the entire islands needs. There are close to 6,200 people living there. The largest town in Mykonos is known as Chora which is located on the west coast of the island. Legend has it that the island is named after a local hero who was said to be a child of Apollo and was worshiped by the locals in Ancient times.

Archaeological evidence points out that the Ionians settled on Mykonos in the 11th century BC. Nut more recent discoveries have shown remnants of Ftelia beach from the Neolithic Kares tribe which dates back to around 3000BC. In Greek mythology, Mykonos was the location of the battle fought between Zeus and Gigantes and the island was names after Apollo’s’ grandson Mykons. But in these times Mykonos was a very populated island of Delos it started to become very key as a supply island and a great getaway for Delican residence.

Modern day Mykonos is considered a cosmopolitan island and has become even more popular in the last 50 years because of international jet set vacationers spending their holidays on this island. The major reason why people come to Mykonos and that is for the white sand beaches and the clear blue waters. Today, the beaches offer windsurfing, sea side taverns, great music and even full and complete nudity. Many people even international celebrities have summer homes on the island. The have street side restaurants that to you can take a break and have a nice meal in.

The island has been called a Greece’s playground and is noted to be one of the top holiday places in the world. The island is one of the better upscale towns in Greece. Because of that real estate is very expensive, location is everything. There are homes, villas and hotels. Because of the upscale of the area, some are complaining that the island is loosing some of its charm and character.

The nightlife on Mykonos is one of the best in all of Europe. It is top rated and has the best clubbing hot spot destinations in the Mediterranean. Other places that run a close second are Ibiza, Ayia Napa and Rimini. These clubs have had world famous DJ’s spin their clubs and beach bars. The best known bars are Paradise, Super Paradise and Paranga. Mykonos is also very politically correct; they have several gay clubs and gay friendly resorts.
