     Greece

(Rate 1 2 3 4 5)
Compulsory education is made up of Primary Schools and Gymnasia. It has two kindergartens and nursery school. When you attend a primary school you go there for 6 years and children begin school when they are 6. There are all day primary schools in operation with extended times and a much harder syllabus. These all day primary schools are for parent s who want their child to be very smart and learn more difficult lessons than the children who would attend regular school. Attendance at the Gymnasia begins at the age of 12 and goes for 3 years.

The Post-compulsory Secondary Education has two school types the Eniaia Lykeia which is the Upper Secondary School and the Technical Vocational Educational Schools. The Post compulsory Secondary Education does include the Vocational Training Institutes as well. This school offers a formal but unclassified level of education meaning that classes are taught without the benefits of calling them grades. It is like a general school without breaks in grades. The reason for that is because they accept both Gymnasia which are the lower secondary school and the Lykeio is the upper secondary school graduates.

Public higher education is divided into Universities or Highest Educational Institutions and the Highest Technological Educational Institutions. These students are allowed to be admitted according to their performance at a national level exam that happens right after completion of the third grade of Lykeio which is the upper secondary school not third grade. The students that are admitted to the Hellenic Open University must upon completion of age 22 by drawing lots.

Formal education is categorized by the fixed length of study and the always possible repetition plus an award of a formal school leaving certificate which is officially authorized. We call those Diplomas in the United States. A consequence of classification of the educational institutions, a title or degree is compulsory fro students at each level of education in order to continue to the next level.

The Greek Education System does provide Special Kindergartens, primary and secondary educational schools which help children with learning disabilities. Musical, Ecclesiastical and Physical Education Gymnasia High Schools are also functional. Some of the Universities located in Greece are The Athens School of Fine Art, Harokopian University of Athens, Hellenic Open University, Ionian University, and University of the Aegean. University of Crete, Technical University of Crete and University of Patras.

The country of Greece takes its education very seriously, they want their children to succeed and whether it is from all day school or fine Universities, Greece has handle of the type of citizens they want to have in their country. Not many countries can say that.
